A last-minute decision to get away for the night, I did a little research and called a toll-free number to book the only available hotel room in Jackpot, Nevada on a Saturday night. To say my husband and I were apprehensive is an understatement.
Unsure about what we’ve gotten ourselves into (very inexpensive), we didn’t expect much. However, upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised.
Two hours later, with only an email confirmation from a foreign land; check in at the West Star Hotel was simple and fast. After I gave my driver’s license to the front desk clerk, we were given two electronic keys and precise directions to our room.
Situated on the edge of town, this quaint little getaway rests on a hilltop looking down on the other hotel’s and casino’s. The room was clean with two double beds, a microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, and our own bathroom with tub and shower. A complimentary continental breakfast is available at 9:00 am the next morning (which we missed by three hours).
The staff is courteous and helpful with welcoming smiles. The hotel is clean and surprisingly quiet. We did not hear any noise from the hallway or the other adjacent rooms. This made for good quality sleep, when we finally decided to do so.
A short walking distance from the main casinos, the hotel offers a shuttle bus that’ll take you to any of the other establishments. We choose to walk to our destination, that took all of five minute’s, as the evening was a gorgeous one.
Of course we stayed out much too late for an 11:00 am check out time. Although we were running behind, the staff didn’t pester us to leave. Not one bothersome housekeeping call at our door between nine and eleven o’clock in the morning. For us, that alone is worth its weight in gold.
Come the time we once again decide to enjoy what Jackpot has to offer; and yes it will most likely be an unplanned whimsical affair, we will stay at the West Star.
