My tribute to dads

As I contemplate what I’m going to write about for father’s day, I find this is one of the more difficult pieces I’ll have to compose. Not having a father growing up has left the holiday less than desirable for me.

Abandoned by my so called dad before I can remember, I’ve grown accustomed to find other ways to celebrate the occasion now that I have children of my own. After all, it’s now a very important holiday for my family.

So without further ado, here is my tribute to the men that have impacted little people throughout the ages leaving a positive impact on their lives, and what I dreamt about as I was a child.

He’s the first person to hold your tiny hand
Bestowing courage when there was none
Escorting you through difficult times in life
More valiant than Superman
He’s your fearless protector forever and ever
The one person to count on no matter what has transpired
Stronger than any other person in the whole wide word
And you’d dare anyone to put him to the test
You fly through the air into his arms
Trusting that they’d catch you every time
Which he did without fail
He cares like no one else
Holding you with strong arms
Everyone else pales in comparison
He’s the first man you fell in love with
Holding a place in heart no other can fill
Admiration and pride fills your soul
And for no other reason than
He’s your DAD…..

Wishing you the gift of His faith, love, and peace this season

Another Christmas is upon us. The trees are aglow, decorations put up, and lights are strung from every corner of the city to the other. Holiday shoppers are nearly finished, smiling as the piles of gifts grow. Glad tidings, good food, and cheer galore all for you to enjoy. The only thing left is to finish the wrapping and prepare the feast.

Through the eyes of child, magic becomes real. Everything looks beautiful as it sparkles and shines, people are giving warm smiles and friendly hugs, presents appear out of nowhere and there is more candy to eat than on Halloween. Watching children countdown to Christmas morning puts butterflies in my tummy and makes me giggle as they snoop through the packages under the tree and sneak another piece of fudge. Everything is an awesome game as they attempt to guess who got what. It truly makes me happy to experience the holiday with my children who are under the seasons spell.

Words are not enough to express what Christmas means to me as it is not about the gifts under the tree. There isn’t any material object that could be given that I would treasure more than the love I have from my family and friends. Cliché I know, but true.

I hope and pray all of you are having a blessed holiday, whichever one you celebrate! May peace and joy be with you!
