Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad

Historic Leadville is rich with working-class traditions and spectacular views. Located at the base of Colorado’s highest peak in an alpine valley, this former mining town is home to the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad (LC&S). Once operating service all the way to Denver, this famed line now runs tours on an 11.5-mile stretch of ascending track overlooking some of the most breathtaking scenery the state has to offer.  In the fall passengers will enjoy spectacular views as the colors change for the season with amazing displays of gold, red and orange Aspen trees lighting up the mountainside.

The train runs from Memorial Day weekend in May through the end of September. Special packages include three wildflowers tours in July and August, a night ride barbeque special in July, a fall photo special ride in September, and a daily raft and rail ride put on in conjunction with Noah’s Ark Rafting. The LC&S ride is sure to be a blast for the whole family. Even well-behaved pets are allowed on board.

The tour train has been running since 1986, shortly after the area’s mines shut down. It has served as a great boost to the local economy. “Our company and crew are like members of the family,” says Kirstin Olsen, Director of Sales and Marketing.
